This poem was written just a few days ago for my cousin. For a prayer meeting discussion, she was to look up the word "evangelist." So, she thought she would put some humor into the meeting. That is when she asked me to write a poem for her. I wrote one that was a little more serious, but I liked this one better. By the way, her husband is a pastor!

Evangelist's Story

Many men have jobs, I'm sure you know that's true -

I could name them by the hundreds, but we'll just talk about a few.
Rich Man, poor man, beggar man's strife,
Doctor, lawyer - run for your life!
Pastor, minister- by now you get the gist -
Let's talk about the E - van - gel - ist.
We know he is a preacher but a pastor he is not.
He doesn't know the people- if they're poor or own a yacht.
He brings God's message to town for a while,
He doesn't stay too long - that is not his style.
The people come from near and far to hear him tell His story.
Many are saved and rededicated, the Church is shouting "Well Glory!"
He steps on the toes of more than one - before the revival is through.
He doesn't have to worry because he'll soon be on the run -
The pastor will know what to do!
If I had to choose between an evangelist,
Or a pastor that's here all the time,
I'd choose the latter and I'd like to say this,
"We think our pastor is devine!"
