Welcome to Michael Taylor's
Monaville, WV
Webpage!

Hello!  My name is Michael Taylor and I am originally from Monaville, West Virginia.  This web page is intended to serve as a hub for all former and current residents and friends from this small southern West Virginia coal community.  I hope that it will bring old friends back together as well as allow us all to make new friends.  I welcome your comments, as well as any photos and/or news items you would like to submit.  I plan to use this page for old pictures, Logan county links, obituaries, etc.  I am especially interested in local history and photographs.  If you have anything you would like to submit, or would like to drop me a line, my e-mail address is miketaylor@suddenlink.net or you can mail it to PO Box 183 Whitman, WV  25652.  My phone number is 304-239-3175.  Please visit often and don't forget to sign our Guestbook!

New Picture from former Monaville resident, Willis Meade!

My name is Willis Meade and I lived in Monaville from about 1939 to 1942. My father was the mine forman at the # 11 coal mine and the superintendent was a man by the name of Nick Bensen.  As I remember,  the mine worked out and closed down in 1942 and we moved to what was then called "main Holden". We lived over on "the hill" in Monaville (Monahill). The families that lived near me were the Whites, the Baldwins, the Kenners, and the Bensens.

Picture (left to right): Nicky Bensen, Clyde (my brother), Bobby Bensen, Jimmy Bensen, and I am the one in the middle holding the puppy. I was probably about 12 or 13 years old at the time. I am currently 77 years old and have lived here in Brooksville, Florida for 17 years.

Remember the basic coal company house?  And how about this old roadster?  Look closely at the bottom of the photograph and you can see the photographer, too!  (Photo courtesy of Bill Vance)
