My father-in-law, Curtis Taylor, who is from a family of musicians, loved to sing and play the guitar, as well as the mandolin. He went to be with the Lord in 1980 and we miss him very much. He had a great sense of humor and was very knowledgeable in the Bible. Mrs. Taylor, Lillian, was a wonderful Christian lady who loved to cook, listen to good ole Gospel music, and spend time with her family. She passed away several years ago. Thiss poem was written for her 70th birthday. I thought it would make the family laugh, but many of the family members thought it was touching! I didn't mean to write such a big introduction, but about the Taylors, I could write a book!
The Taylors
| Many years ago in Vir-gin-i-a | September the fourth of 1953 |
| Came a fellow with a guitar in his hand. | Was a date they would never forget. |
| He was the baddest dude, a funny attitude - | It was Labor Day - In every way, |
| His name was Curtis and he played in a band. | When Michael David arrived, I'll bet! |
| He found him a girl - She made his heart whirl, | Oh, the questions that child could ask, |
| Right then they were in love. | One right after the other. |
| Her name was Lillian, you see, | Their patience he tried - |
| And the angels agree - | At times they even cried! |
| It was a match made in Heaven above. | But he was still their new baby brother. |
| Curt said, "I'll take you away | Now they had a quartet of fine young boys |
| From the cows and the hay, | That they could call their own. |
| To the land where the big bucks lie." | No one ever believed |
| To the coal mining fields of those West Virginia hills. | That they would recieve |
| She said, "Baby, let's give it a try!" | Another baby into their home. |
| They settled down in Monaville town, | "A boy," Lillian whimpered without a doubt. |
| Where the tracks are narrow and wavy. | "A girl!" the doctor screamed! |
| Then before too long, Singing loud and strong - | "Our baby's a girl!" they said with a twirl, |
| She was practicing, "Oh, Rock-a-Bye, Baby!" | "Her name is Debra. It's almost like a dream!" |
| One little baby would've been just fine, | Many years have passed, and now at last, |
| But the good Lord didn't agree. | It's a birthday bash, and we'll let her |
| You see, first came Ron, and then came Don. | Have this party with love, And thanks from above, |
| Thank goodness there were not three! | You're not getting older - just better! |
| A few years later number three made an entrance, |
| This handsome boy was called Roger Dale. | |
| Ah, three boys were enough - | |
| They were all pretty tough. | |
| Yes, their life was lookin' kinda swell! | Copyright, May 1988 - CATaylor |
